There’s something about a nutcracker — part toy soldier, part Christmas tradition — and with around 20 to choose from there’s a posting here for every spot from shelf duty to front-door guard. Sizes run from 13cm window-boxed minis right up to Jacob and Dieter, our 124cm and 151cm standing soldiers, with 30–40cm shelf sizes in between.
The little ones — 13cm window-boxed minis in assorted designs and the 30–40cm shelf pieces — are made for mantels, bookcases and kids’ rooms. Step up to the 4ft Gingerbread Soldier (122cm) and the big named soldiers like Jacob (124cm) and Dieter (151cm) and you’ve got a piece that holds a hallway on its own, or flanks the Christmas tree. A matched pair either side of the front door is the classic move.
The traditional lacquer-finish soldiers and standing figurines are here, but so are the fun ones — candy nutcrackers in 31cm and 40cm, a peppermint candy cane nutcracker and that gingerbread fellow. There’s a hanging resin general for the tree, and windup music boxes — including a soldier music box — for the nostalgics.
Pieces start from around $19.95 and run close to $1,000 at the top of the range, with Afterpay and Zip at the checkout for the big fellows. Everything ships to most of Australia (except WA & NT) packed with proper care, and Brisbane locals can size them up in person at the Archerfield showroom — free click and collect if you’d rather not trust the courier with a soldier.
